Privacy Policy

Information stored on the device

Footies stores your theme, favourite club, notification and alert choices, game progress, hints, streaks, badges, your card collection, completed games and unfinished-game state on your device. This makes autosave, resume and personalisation work.

Information used by online features

League and online play. Online features create a random anonymous identifier. Footies stores it with the display name you choose, League membership, puzzle results, difficulty, completion time and the results of games you play against friends. This is used to calculate and show standings and to run those games.

Your Footies account (optional). You can sign in with Apple. If you do, Footies also stores your email address (or the private relay address Apple gives you), your @username, display name, club, avatar choices, your friends list, and a copy of your progress so it can follow you to a new phone. Your profile (name, @username, avatar and club) can be seen by your friends and by people in your Leagues.

Profile photo (optional). If you add a profile photo, it is uploaded to Footies' storage and checked automatically by an image-safety service before it is shown (see Service providers). Approved photos are kept in a public image folder under a random file name, so anyone with the exact link can view the picture. The photo is shown to people you play with. A rejected photo is deleted and never shown. You can remove or replace your photo at any time.

The Locker Room (chat). If you use the Locker Room, Footies stores the messages, links, GIFs, photos and reactions you send, who is in each group, and your reports and blocks. Messages in a group are visible to the people in that group. Messages in a public room, such as the Main stand, are visible to everyone who opens that room. Photos are checked automatically before others see them. You can report a message or block a player from any chat. If you search for a GIF, your search words are sent to GIPHY.

News and reactions. The Matchday news shows football headlines from publishers' public feeds. The stories you follow are stored on your device. If you react to a story, the reaction is stored with your Footies identifier. See Service providers for how headlines are fetched.

Notifications and club alerts. Daily reminders are scheduled on your device and never leave it. When you turn notifications on, Footies also stores the device push token, timezone and device language so that League alerts can be sent to you. If you choose club alerts, Footies also stores the clubs you picked (up to five), which alerts are on for each, your quiet hours and each club's match-feed identifier, so that kick-off, goal, full-time and news alerts can be sent. Turning notifications off removes the token.

Reports. If you use Report a problem, Footies stores the note you write, the screen or question you were on and, if you choose to attach one, a screenshot, in a private store that only the Footies team can read.

Our hosting and data providers may process network information such as IP address and request logs as needed to deliver and secure these services.

Tracking, advertising and sale

Footies does not sell personal information. Footies does not request your contacts, precise location or microphone. It asks to use your photos only when you choose to add a picture to your profile or a chat.

Advertising

Footies shows ads from Google AdMob to players who are not Footies+ members: a full-screen ad between some games, and an optional video you can choose to watch for an extra play. Google may collect your device's advertising identifier (only if you allow tracking when your iPhone asks), approximate location derived from your IP address, ad interactions and diagnostic data, to show and measure ads. If you do not allow tracking, ads are not personalised. In the UK, the EU and the EEA, Google's consent message lets you choose, and you can change your choice at any time from Privacy & support, Ad privacy choices. Footies+ members see no ads. Subscriptions and purchases

Footies offers an optional paid plan called Footies+ (monthly, annual or lifetime). Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store, and Footies does not receive or store your payment card information. Footies uses RevenueCat to validate purchases, manage subscription status, and provide entitlements. RevenueCat may process an anonymous app user identifier together with purchase and subscription information for these purposes. Apple's and RevenueCat's respective privacy policies also apply to their services.

Service providers

Footies uses these providers to run the app. Each processes information only as needed to provide its service, under its own terms and privacy commitments.

• Supabase: sign-in, database, storage, real-time updates and server functions.
• Apple: sign in with Apple, App Store purchases and the Apple Push Notification service for optional iPhone alerts.
• RevenueCat: purchase and subscription status.
• Google AdMob: the ads shown to players who are not Footies+ members (see Advertising).
• OpenAI (moderation service): receives each profile photo and chat photo, and nothing else about you (no name, account or message), to decide whether the image is safe to show. It is used for this check only.
• football-data.org: a football-data provider our server asks for match times and scores for club alerts. No personal information is sent to it.
• GIPHY: used only if you search for GIFs in the Locker Room. Your search words and your device's IP address are visible to it.
• News publishers: headlines come from the public feeds of BBC Sport, The Guardian, Sky Sports, 90min and ESPN. Our server collects them. When our server is not available, your device may fetch the feeds directly, in which case those publishers can see your device's IP address.

Your device also contacts these services directly to load pictures when they are shown:

• flagcdn.com: national flags, requested by two-letter country code.
• commons.wikimedia.org: flags for a small number of national and historical teams, and photographs of players when you press and hold a player's picture. Player pictures on collectible cards are bundled in the app. They are cut from Wikimedia Commons photographs under Creative Commons licences, and the credits are in the app under Privacy & support.

These requests carry no Footies account identifier and no gameplay information, and Footies sends no personal data to these services. As with any request to a third-party server, your device's IP address is visible to it, and each service's own privacy terms apply. Club crests are bundled in the app and are not fetched.

Retention and deletion

Footies keeps your online information while your Footies account (or anonymous identifier) exists. Push subscriptions are deleted when every notification topic is switched off.

Open Privacy & support inside the app and choose Delete my account and data. This deletes your email, @username, profile and photo, friends, the saved copy of your progress, your League membership and results, your messages, reactions, reports and blocks in the Locker Room, and your notification token, and clears the local data on that phone. It cannot be undone. It does not cancel a Footies+ subscription, which you manage in your Apple ID settings, and you can restore purchases afterwards.

Children

Footies is a general-audience football game and does not knowingly collect a child's real name or precise location. Ads are limited to content suitable for a general audience (rated Parental Guidance at most). Display names, usernames and chat messages should not contain personal contact information.

Changes

This policy may be updated when Footies features or providers change. The effective date above will be revised, and material changes will be explained in the app or release notes where appropriate.
